Two Cited for Illegal Gillnetting on Lake Oconee

A surveillance operation by rangers with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources recently resulted in citations being issued against two men for illegally gillnetting fish on Lake Oconee in Greene County, authorities say.

The men were found in the possession of about 150 pounds of assorted fish, including white bass, crappie, hybrid and striper, Georgia Department of Resources Wildlife Law Enforcement Division Capt. Mark Padgett said.

The Annual Dairy Festival is set for June 1, 2013 on the streets that surround the Putnam County Courthouse.

Main events include a parade and barbeque.

The day starts out with road races at 8 a.m., and the parade is at 10 a.m.

- Paper Making and work with Paper Mache`

- Weaving bracelets and bookmarks
- Abstract Drawing
- Daily drawing instruction and sketching time
- Lettering/Calligraphy
- "Stomp It Up" - intro to modern clogging/tap dance
- Poetry Writing

Requirements: Children must have completed Kindergarten and may not be any older than 12.  Pre-Registration and payment required as space is limited.

A spa in Greensboro has been listed as one Georgia's "Top Spas and Getaways" in the 2013 Georgia Travel Guide.

The annual publication lists the spa at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge on Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro as a "state-of-the-art-haven" and points out the spa's unique treatments like "The Oconee Rain Body Treatment."

Call for Entries for the 30th Annual Oconee Artists Exhibition

Allied Arts is currently accepting entries for the 30th  annual Oconee Artists Exhibition.

The Oconee Artists Exhibition is an annual juried exhibition open to adult artists in the central Georgia area. The six eligible categories are drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Artists may submit up to three works; entry forms must be postmarked by Friday, April 19 or delivered to Allied Arts, 201 North Wayne Street, Milledgeville, Ga. 31061.

Best-In-Show awards will consist of a First Place prize of $150, a Second Place prize of $100 and a Third Place prize of $75.  The top entries in each category will be awarded a Certificate of Merit if the juror feels it is warranted.
