Manufacturer bringing 80 jobs to Putnam County

Today Governor Deal announced a California-based manufacturer brings 80 jobs to Eatonton.

Aalto Scientific, described in a news release as "a leading manufacturer in the medical diagnostics industry," begins construction at 1100 Madison Road. 

It'll be 150 acres worth of development in Rock Eagle Technology Park.

Owner Steve Mauro says they're also moving their headquarters to Georgia to grow the company.

Hancock County unemployment rate hits 13 percent

Hancock County's unemployment rate hits 13 percent in January, compared to Macon's regional 7.7 percent and Putnam County's nine percent.

In January 2013, one year ago, the unemployment rate was 9.3 percent in Central Georgia, according to a release.

Central Georgia's regional unemployment estimation from the Georgia Department of Labor includes Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jones, Monroe, Pulaski, Putnam, Twiggs and Wilkinson counties.

Area unemployment rates fall

Central Georgia's unemployment rate continues to dip, falling from 7.8 to 7.7 percent from December to January.

The rate has declined mostly because the amount of new layoffs decreased by 41 percent, according to a release.

In January 2013, one year ago, the unemployment rate was 9.3 percent.
